Wallace Hall Gets Ready to Rock

Wallace Hall’s school show team has been working hard on this year’s production, School of Rock. Members of the cast have dedicated lunch times, evenings and even weekends to rehearsals. S2-S6 pupils are taking on responsibilities for every aspect of the show, including set design, lighting, sound, hair and makeup, props and costume. This is a great opportunity for interdisciplinary learning, which allows students to develop skills in different areas outside of the classroom. Live music will be performed by a school band composed of talented senior pupils. The team is grateful to former students Sam Solley and Declan McGarva for their help with music rehearsals. Great progress has been made

Young Ambassadors lead the way

Finlay Bainbridge, our Head Boy, and Josie Blount, our Head Girl, travelled to Hampden recently to take part in the Young Ambassador 2019 conference. The Young Ambassadors’ programme is funded by the National Lottery and is a key element of sportscotland’s contribution to developing young people as leaders in sport. Each year, two pupils from each secondary school in Scotland are chosen as Young Ambassadors to promote sport, and motivate and inspire other young people to get involved in sport in their schools, clubs and local communities. The programme helps young people make a meaningful and important contribution as leaders of sport in their school, and offers opportunities for leadership

Rugby is a Royal Experience

Four teams from Wallace Hall Academy took part in a regional rugby tournament at Park Farm in Dumfries on Wednesday 11th September. Over 200 pupils from across the region joined together to enjoy a full day of rugby with some fiercely fought games taking place. Our under 14 boys team won six out of six games to be crowned the overall winners of their section of the tournament. The under 16 girls and under 16 boys teams also played well, both finishing in a top four place in their respective competitions. Our under 14 girls had their first taste of competitive rugby where they joined players from other schools in a two team challenge. Well done to all of the players taking part and a big t

Musical Monsters and Outdoor Learning at Wallace Hall Primary School

Last week the P3 and P6 children at Wallace Hall Primary School enjoyed working with composer Matilda Brown to create music inspired by monsters. The project came about as part of Matilda's 'Alongside Autumn' project, involving Matilda walking 500 miles over the length of Scotland with her faithful canine companion, Jasper, for company, stopping to perform and compose music with local communities along her route. Wallace Hall Primary School was her first port of call. The children participated in a whole day music workshop, thinking of plot lines for the monster music and then experimenting with a variety of traditional and electronic musical instruments to compose the piece together. Our new S1 pupils

Our new S1 pupils are settling in to life at Wallace Hall well. The three classes (1.C1, 1.N1 and 1.S1) had a class photograph taken during their induction days in June and again on their very first day of S1, all wearing their brand new Wallace Hall Academy uniform. Barry Graham, Head Teacher of Wallace Hall said: “I am delighted to welcome our new S1 pupils to Wallace Hall Academy. The move from primary to secondary is an important step. Our transitions programme ensures that making that move is as easy as possible for our young people and allows them to start S1 with confidence. It is great to see all three classes looking very smart in the Wallace Hall Academy uniform, ready to embra
