Forest School
Forest School is a child-centred inspirational learning process, that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions. It is a long-term program that supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting.
Mrs Belford and Mrs Robertson are now both qualified Forest School practitioners and are delivering outdoor sessions to some of our S1-S3 pupils.
We use the school grounds for these sessions- with our various patches of woodland and our WHApples orchard. Activities are fully risk assessed and we have training in outdoor first aid. This enables participants to take managed risks under supervision- learning skills such as fire lighting and tool use. There are also much needed opportunities for play and nature connection which are excellent for the physical and mental health of our young people.
