Primary 6 Visit the Salmon Farm

Primary 6 had a trip to the Salmon Hatchery at Blackwood Estate, Auldgirth. They had a super visit with Debbie Parke, learning about the life of the North Atlantic Salmon. They were extremely lucky to see two hen salmon being stripped of their eggs and then being fertilised by the milt of a cock salmon. They saw eggs in their incubation tanks and were even allowed to handle some. The children had a great morning and were praised both for their intelligent questions as well as for their excellent behaviour.

Maths Week at WHA

.StartFragment What can maths do for you? This year’s math week competition had the concept of showing how maths can help you in many ways in your every day life. The competition was open for all pupils in the year groups S1-S3, with the theme being “Maths to the Rescue”. The competition entailed pupils designing a poster to show just how maths can be of help to people, there were a wide range of different interpretations of the theme which resulted in some very well put together posters. Although there were many “High Quality Efforts” the top prize was awarded to Emily Cochrane for her amazing interactive poster, the resulting posters from this competition can be seen in the maths departmen

Wallace Hall Pupil selected for Scotland

Aeron started karate at the age of 4, he began training with Dumfries Shotokan Karate until the age of 9 and then started training with Stewartry Karate club. He trained in Dalbeatie, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright and New Abbey. He began competing all over the UK winning numerous titles. At the age of 12 he started training in Glasgow. He competed overseas at the age of 13, competing in Germany and Italy. In November 2017 he moved to Shitokai Scotland who are based in Renfrew one of the most successful clubs in the UK. This meant that Aeron had to change karate style, up until then he trained in Shotokan but had to change to Shito Ryu. He had aspirations of competing for Scotland and to be c
