Wallace Hall Delivers Another Rock Solid Production

This year’s school show, School of Rock, has been another great success. The long rehearsals and hard work put in by all those involved paid off as students gave stellar performances, welcoming sold out audiences on the second and third nights. Most importantly, a fantastic time was had by all, with the show allowing students of different ages who may not otherwise have mixed the chance to work together, support each other and make friends.

School of Rock is an ambitious production of which acting and singing is only a part. As such, preparation for the show saw students take responsibility for every aspect of theatre production, including creating the set, performing in the live band, taking charge of sound and lighting, designing props and costume and working both backstage and front of house each night. This allowed talent in many different spheres to be showcased, and for some, the opportunity to try something new. Additionally, workshops for P7 pupils from the cluster primary schools held during the run of the show gave next year’s S1 students a chance to practise acting and singing with the cast, as well as to gain an insight into these other theatre arts whilst attending talks on costume design and backstage work – we hope to see them involved in next year’s show!

Though it is always sad to see it come to an end, we look forward to Wallace Hall’s next production, which we’re sure will be even better. Massive thanks are owed to Mrs Griffin for directing the cast, Miss Stuart for choreography, Mr Riley, Sam Solley and Declan McGarva for directing the band, Mrs Simpson for managing backstage and set design, Dave at SW Sound, Mrs Menzies at the box office, the front of house and janitorial staff and, of course, all students in the cast and crew for giving up their time to produce such an excellent show.
