Picture Perfect
Wallace Hall Art & Design pupils have been producing some fantastic artwork over the past session. As well as pupils taking these home for friends and family, many of these pieces of artwork are on display around the school.
Art and Design teacher, Mrs Jozien Black, organises for much of this work to be framed by Jock Davidson, a local picture framer and craftsman. Jock generously completes all of the work he undertakes for the school at cost price which is greatly appreciated by the pupils, their parents and the school.
For a number of years now, Jock has kept a jar for any tip money he collects from customers who are pleased with the work he does. His customers know that he donates the contents of this jar every year to our school Art and Design Department and they enjoy supporting the school, doing their bit to encourage the next generation of artists and photographers.
Mrs Black said: “We are very grateful that Jock continues to be so supportive of the Art and Design department at Wallace Hall. Last year the money was spent buying good quality aprons and we plan to use this year’s donation for artists’ quality paint and materials. His framing skills ensure our pupils’ work is displayed very professionally. Thank you Jock.”
Headteacher, Barry Graham, added: “We are very lucky at Wallace Hall to benefit from a very supportive artistic community and, in addition to Jock’s donation this year, we were privileged to receive a very generous gift of artists’ materials and equipment from Alistair Sillars which belonged to his wife Brenda who sadly passed away last year. This was very thoughtful of Alistair and the family and his kindness much appreciated by our Art and Design department. Our Art and Design pupils also benefited from a legacy of professional brushes and materials from the estate of local artist, Victor Henderson. Victor sadly died last year and these materials were kindly donated by his brother.
