RLSS Water Safety Presentation

We were delighted to welcome Ailsa Morton into school recently to deliver a Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) water safety presentation to all our pupils from P1 – S6. Ailsa, a former pupil of Wallace Hall and a Coach and Youth Officer with Nithsdale Life Savers, is the first student in Scotland to achieve the new RLSS Survive and Save Distinction and was the West of Scotland Young Lifesaver of the Year for 2018.

In her presentation, Alisa highlighted the number of water-related tragedies every year and the precautions that can be taken to keep safe. She said: “I would encourage everyone to learn how to swim and undertake basic survival training. It could save your life!”

Steven Rae, Acting Principal Teacher of HWB and HE, said: “Thank you Ailsa for coming into Wallace Hall to raise awareness of the importance of water safety with our pupils. You highlighted numerous facts which clearly show the significant number of life-changing injuries and loss of life associated with water-related emergencies. You also gave our pupils a powerful message about the importance of learning to swim and making sure that your families know your location and time of return when out and about, near water or otherwise. I am sure our pupils will have benefitted from your visit today and learned how to have fun in the water – safely.”
