P7 pupils visit Edinburgh

Wallace Hall Primary 7 pupils enjoyed a fantastic visit to Edinburgh recently where they spent time visiting a variety of tourist attractions and cultural experiences. First on the agenda was a tour around the Scottish Parliament building where they learned about the history of the Scottish Parliament from 1235 to present day. They also learned about the roles of key figures such as the Presiding Officer and local MSPs as well as about devolved matters and how decisions are made. The pupils then moved on to Dynamic Earth where there are a plethora of activities and exhibits dedicated to telling the life story of planet. A visit to the theatre to see Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda, the Musical’ rounded off the day nicely.

Friday began with a walk up the Royal Mile. As ever, this area was very busy with tourists from all over the world soaking up the atmosphere of our beautiful capital city. At the top of the mile, a tour of Edinburgh Castle awaited. This famous landmark sits proudly on Castle Rock, formed after a volcano erupted over 340 million years ago, and the pupils learned about its colourful history and legends. To round off the trip, the pupils walked to the National Museum of Scotland in Chambers Street. This beautiful building has just had a £47 million re-development and houses a spectacular array of over 20,000 fascinating artefacts. Muskaan Naqvi commented that: “The National Museum was absolutely wonderful and I really enjoyed it.”

Paige Marchbank said: “Our trip to Edinburgh was an exciting adventure.” Simeon Gaskell added: "I enjoyed the opportunity to do something different." Mikayla Larisma said the bit she loved best was: "sleeping over with my friends and going to see ‘Matilda’" with Alana Morrison highlighting, "loving having a midnight feast in my room with my friends.”

The bus got back to Wallace Hall just after 6pm on Friday night. Although there were some very tired young people (and members of staff), everyone agreed that the packed itinerary had been worth it and that it had been a trip to remember.
